I recently called out what I thought was a slanted and misleading photo used in a Facebook post and was told that my statement was racist (I don't think that I was personally called a racist, or was I?).

Here is the comment to my post followed by my response. I know my response is long but I did not have the time to write a shorter one:

That is so horribly offensive, Ter. It makes me sad that
you could say something like that either without understanding how racist it is
or with intentions to offend.
My response:
Thanks for your interesting response; it gives me an
opportunity to express my love to all my family of all races; as we are “one”. It
is long, but if you (and others) really “care” about my response, you will take
the time to read it. You may be interested just who shares my view at the end
of my response.
You did not state however which part(s) of my statement is “racist”.
I’m thinking that you are not disagreeing that there are rap lyrics demeaning
women in songs, so I will answer as best as I can to what I think you are
referring to as what “that” is.
Every morning I pray that my words “edify” and to you, it
seems that I’ve failed. Maybe I can correct that. First you state that this is
offensive; to whom? One can be offended or enlightened; it is a choice. Did my
comment encourage you to research the facts or to immediately state that it was
racist? I could tell you that I have many friends who are Black, Hispanic and Native
American but that too would sound racist because I mentioned a race. It may be awkward;
but not racist, as we now live in a society that wants to continue to divide
would have us think. I remember a Black comedian who was married to a Caucasian
who said he found it awkward sharing with his friends, “The other day I was
talking to my White wife…”
Make no mistake that when advertisers use photos of people
in their advertising that they think this through very well. If this was a
Black woman would we be having this discussion? I just found it interesting
that it was a white woman depicted in the ad (25% of White race has single
mothers) when Black or African American race is higher (67%). Even my Native
American race is high at 52%. I’m not sure how my pointing this out is “racist”;
I’m sincerely concerned for my Black family, friends, their kids, culture and
society as a whole. As long as we throw the racist statement everywhere and
every time, we will not get along as one big family, and children will continue
to be without fathers in the home and society as a whole will suffer. If so
inclined, you can check the facts at: kidscount.org (because they do;
regardless of color).
Just as the dangers of things like Diabetes hurts the Black
community greater than the White population (coincidentally also at twice the
rate that it affects Whites) these things need to be recognized first and not
shoved under the “that’s racist” rug, so they can be improved on.
In the video above, Mr. Obama said
the exact same thing when he addressed a black church in 2008. Being that he is
“half” white, was he being racist?
