What I want to learn from your marketing class is to be able to use marketing tools in whatever job I am currently employed in; however, I also want to learn what are the big no's in marketing. The one thing I would really like to learn are the big "No's" in the marketing world.

I want to learn how to give away "freebies". I also want to know at what point is giving away too much for free is a bad business move. I want to gain the knowledge of expanding business opportunities from an advertising perspective.

I am in the process of opening my own business. Currently I am working at Motel 6 at the front desk. We have several guests who come up and ask for matches. I was thinking of getting match books with my company information on it and give to the local hotels/motels where I will be doing business. But I got to thinking...will it look like my business is promoting smoking?
In real estate the mantra is always location, location, location. With marketing, it's always test, test, and test. I would ask people around you what they think. Here is a chance to be creative. Knowing that people use matches for more than just lighting up, why not be creative and use them as "business cards"? For example, the imprint could state, For Hot (whatever your business is) products, ideas, etc. call me. Or, For matchless (your product or service here), call and state your phone number!
