Create Your Four Ps Marketing Plan

I’ve been fortunate to have taught marketing at the university level, offer marketing advice to small and large companies, and continue now doing so in my books, blogs, speaking events and private consultations. Being that I’ve done this for so long, it’s easy to think that everyone knows what I know so I have to remind myself to always start with the basics; here are the basics: Know your customer, know your product and service and use the four Ps to promote your product and service to that customer via in a way that they want to be marketed. There’s a whole lot more to this and it can be a daunting task but when you stick to these basics, with all of your marketing efforts, you will be more successful.

Create a marketing plan around these four Ps. READ MORE: As with anything “People don’t plan to fail; they fail to plan”. Have a marketing plan, however basic, using these four Ps and stick with it for a while and then continue to “tweak” it as your business grows.

Know you Product inside and out, become an expert about it. Now “learn” it again but from the customer’s point of view.

Price your product or service according to what your customer wants to pay, get in the mind of your customer here.

At what Place will your customer find your product; the Internet, stores, etc.?

The Promotion is the fun part of the four Ps and most creative. This includes everything in marketing your product or service but can be the most costly and you have to be careful in both investing too much or too little in the areas of creating your logo, brochures; basically anything from business cards to billboards. Remember, it’s not expensive to use an expert in marketing your business; it’s expensive not to.

Seven Tips for Super Marketing Flyers

Basically everything that one does to promote their business or message falls under this vast banner of marketing. So here I will at times touch on advertising, promotional products, press releases, social media and on and on. Whenever you see a tip here from me, take it and apply it within several areas of your marketing efforts to get the most from it.

Today, let’s talk a bit about creating your marketing flyer.

When you are creating marketing flyers, put only the pertinent information on them. They are meant to be read quickly and have immediate action done by the reader. To read the seven “dos” for flyers, visit blog:

  1. Create a flyer; not a book. Your flyer needs to present only one main message, stated clearly.
  2. Use only one or two typefaces for your flyer making it easy to read and understand quickly.
  3. Use different variations of your typeface to add interest and “shout out” certain main details with large and bold words while “quietly” sharing other details by using italics and smaller words that are necessary but will be read only if the reader is interested further. Use bullets and alter the margins and paragraph styles judiciously so it looks good but reads well. Get your main points of your message read first!
  4. Get all of the pertinent details on your flyer, such as the date, address of your business, phone number etc., usually placing them at the bottom of your flyer because this is where your reader has been "trained" to look for such details.
  5. Have your flyer proofread before you print it. Run it by someone else who can look at it with “fresh eyes”.
  6. Use a graphic or photo which still “speaks a 1000 or more words”.
  7. Be sure that it has “positive energy” by creating the flyer when you are in a great mood and excited about your message and the event!
Make it a great day!
