What comes first "Marketing your Product/Service" or "Marketing You"?

Someone asked me this question...

Which do you feel is MOST important: marketing your product/service first or marketing you?

And this was my answer:

Sorry it took me a while to respond; I'm relatively new here and don't see my "emails" as often. Answer: being that you are in marketing yourself, I'm thinking this may be a rhetoric question or you are getting a "feeling" from business owners. I always like to take time on things before I answer, but I'm going to say it's best to promote a product or service first. When someone has a need, let's say they come to a strange town where they don't know anyone (you) but have a need (flat tire) they will pull out their phone and search for "Tire Repair" because they don't know that "Terry" or "Terry's Tire Repair" exists!
